The console has created a number of copy-cat devices available for other consoles – most notably the X Box and PlayStation. Nintendo’s console itself also has a number of add-ons, designed to improve game play and enhance the console. Of of these add-ons is the Motion Plus, which is a Wii Remote Controller. The standard controllers can capture a good range of motion, and are useful for the range of sports games etc. that are available. However, newer games can be controlled by an ever increasing range of complex motion. The standard controllers are often unable to detect subtleties in complicated moves well enough to control some games.
That is where the Motion Plus comes in it captures complicated moves much more accurately, which allows for an improved level of game play. It works by using one gyroscope that can turn in all directions and a second gyroscope that can detect rotation this allows it to capture an increased range of motion.
This is one example of a growing number of expansion devices available for this console. As the Nintendo Wii is so inexpensive in comparison to other consoles, it seems clear that it will continue to be a strong product for Nintendo for some time.
The Nintendo Wii caused something of a revolution in the home computer games market. Where before it was released, the vast majority of gaming involved sitting in front of a screen – potentially motionless for hours – and controlling one or more characters machines etc., the Wii is designed to get the player physically involved with the game.
As far as the individual gamer goes, the benefits are clear moving during the game and getting the heart pumping is good for one’s health. In fact, perhaps inevitably, dozens of fitness-related games have been released and their strength in the gaming market seems no signs of slowing.
